The unit aims to provide conceptual tools that enable students to perform a critical insight on language as an object of study and its usage in public communication.
It is intended that students acquire the following knowledge and skills:
- To be able to discern the uniqueness of man as "being of language" or language itself as self-instituting.
- To understand the different dimensions acting among the referential, symbolic and performative nature of language.
- To identify the concepts of reference, enunciation, meaning and purpose in discursive practices.
- To understand the experience transformations with the turn to modernity and the public and critical use of reason.
- To locate and understand the emergence of the communicational subject in modern times, the public sphere as a discursive space and publicity as a category of mediation.
