The main objective of this CU is to diversify and enrich the visual horizons of AM students, bringing to their knowledge the anthropological production and reflection about images, so that they can support the interpretation of the different worldviews in a critical capacity to analyze the influence of media representations. It adopts a historical perspective, accompanying the development of visual anthropology through its paradigms and authors, to highlight the scientific, stylistic and political specificities that underlie the formation of different understandings about the relation between anthropology and image. The discussion around the different proposals for visual anthropology will also serve as a context to discuss central themes, among which stand out issues like the power of images and the establishment of dominant narratives and counter-narratives; the relationship between objectivity and subjectivity; the aesthetic resources applied in visual anthropology.
