Gregory Payne

Dr. J. Gregory Payne is Chair of Emerson College’s Department of Communication Studies, the first communication department in the United States. He is the Co-Director of the Emerson Blanquerna Center for Global Communication and received an “Honoris Causa” from the Blanquerna School of Communication and International Relations, University of Ramon Llull in Barcelona in the fall of 2019 for his lifelong distinguished academic and professional career.
He has lectured internationally on topics related to political communication, public diplomacy, health communication, media, ethics, leadership, negotiation, crisis and risk communication, and political and social movements.
Keri Thompson

Keri Thompson is a Senior Lecturer in Communication Studies at Emerson College and specializes in professional communication skills, political communication and social media. She has extensive public speaking experience and has taught, coached and lectured on the subject at various schools and organizations across the country. Her research specialties include political communication, nonverbal communication and presence, audience analysis, social media, rhetoric and language. Specifically, her interests are in social media and politics, presidential rhetoric and campaign communication. She specializes in coaching and training political candidates and business executives. Outside of Emerson, Keri serves as a Speech Consultant for Babson College (working with coaching Babson students, staff, alums, and Executive MBA students) and a Speech Coach at Harvard Business School. For the past few years, she has been busy pioneering ways to use social media and digital storytelling as a means of public speaking in the classroom, business world and political arena.
Keri graduated with a BS in Speech Communication from Bradley University in Peoria, IL. She went on to get graduate degrees from Pepperdine University in Malibu, California and The University of Texas at Austin in Austin, Texas.
